What a clinical trial is

A clinical trial is a research study that tests whether a new treatment, device or approach is safe and works. In the United States, an independent ethics board, called an institutional review board, reviews a trial before it enrolls anyone.

Taking part is always your choice. You can ask questions at any time, and you can leave a study whenever you want.

To search studies that are open now across the country, use ClinicalTrials.gov, the public registry run by the U.S. National Library of Medicine.
